For those who love culture even in summer, we have selected 3 exhibitions to see in Milan!

In this summer full of events at the seaside resorts, Italian cities have also equipped themselves with various cultural initiatives. For the many tourists who flock to them and the (few) remaining citizens, the offer is wide and varied. Let's take a look at three exhibitions not to be missed in the beautiful city of Milan.

Boccaccio Boccaccino. On the threshold of the modern manner in Val Padana.

Paintings by the painter Boccaccio Boccaccino

The Pinacoteca di Brera presents an exhibition specifically dedicated to Boccaccio Boccaccino, one of the main protagonists of painting in the early 16th century in the Po Valley.

Alongside the "Madonna with Child," already present at the Pinacoteca di Brera, for the first time, another “Madonna with Child” will be displayed. It is the “Sacra Conversazione with Saints John the Baptist and Catherine of Alexandria or Giustina” (from the collection of the Correr Museum in Venice) and “The Adoration of the Shepherds” from the Museum and Royal Bosco dei Capodimonte in Naples.

The dialogue among these three works focuses on the early period of the painter's activity, between the late 15th century, spent in Ferrara (where he painted the “Adoration of the Shepherds”), and 1506, the year when he is last documented in Venice, where he painted the other three exhibited works.

The exhibition is open for visitation until September 3rd, at the Pinacoteca di Brera, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8:30 AM to 7:15 PM.

Dara Birnbaum.

For those who love video installations, the exhibition at the Osservatorio of the Fondazione Prada dedicated to the works of Dara Birnbaum is open for visitation. Dara Birnbaum is an international pioneer in the field of video and mass media.

The extensive retrospective exhibition is entirely dedicated to the artist and features a selection of single-channel videos, multi-channel installations, photographs, sound works, and 3D prints on plexiglass, created between 1975 and 2022.

The exhibition's layout, conceived by the artist, spans across two floors of the Osservatorio and does not follow a chronological order. Instead, it explores recurring themes through a careful selection of works that reveal the multiplicity of artistic media and languages employed by Birnbaum.

The exhibition is open at the Osservatorio of the Fondazione Prada until September 25th. The visiting hours are from Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The exhibition is closed on Tuesdays.

Metaphysical Visions. Vasco Ascolini meets Canova, Thorvaldsen and De Chirico.

For photography enthusiasts, the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum and the Pasquale Battista Foundation present the first anthological exhibition dedicated to the photographer Vasco Ascolini, taking place in Milan.

The exhibition aims to pay tribute to the Emilian artist by retracing his production through a careful selection of over seventy works dedicated to ancient sculpture.

Vasco Ascolini's photographs will be juxtaposed with some of the greatest works of the past, such as paintings by Giorgio De Chirico and plaster casts by Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen. The intention is to recreate the metaphysical atmosphere so dear to the photographer, emphasizing the dialectic between the ancient and the contemporary.

The exhibition is open for visitation at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum until December 3rd. The opening hours are as follows: Wednesdays from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursdays and Fridays from 1:00 PM to 5:45 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 5:45 PM. The exhibition is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

And if you wish to explore the city, there are three guides available that will take you to discover its hidden corners!
